"The Feminine Face of God"

• It is important to start talking and gathering women together - with all this strength and vibrancy amongst the women in our community I feel it is about time we created a gathering that is a true reflection of our community and genuine in its intentions. An event that celebrates the juiciness of women-Nectar Festival. An event that germinates passion for life and and inspires the women within our community to realise their dreams and reaching their potential. Important movements and change can be born out of celebration - change doesn't have to be a process facilitated by a committee it can be an organic spontaneous movement that grows out of celebration and acknowledgement of the skills and diversity within our community.

We live in an inspiring part of the planet. Fremantle has attracted a worldly bunch of people and allows space for a diverse range of opinions. The sense that I have is that even if you're not from here you find a welcoming community that fosters growth and self expression. I find our isolation from other major cities and countries refreshing as we are able to create unique events that are not competitive and reflect the seeds of creativity from within the community. The Fremantle community is small enough to allow us to become in tune with its rhythm allowing moments of synchronicity. People are out and about socialising, working, meeting on the streets. The right person always seems to pop up, meetings can be spontaneous and often an open discussion on the street or in a cafe can build a new idea or direction for a project. Its this connectiveness and magic that is sparked from these spontaneous meetings that I have come to love about Fremantle.

This is the inspiration behind Nectar - For me International Women's Day is a movement that was born from women having equal rights to vote and equality in pay and the ongoing struggle many women still face daily around the world. Nectar recognises of the important role of women in our community and the leadership they provide. We only need to look back in history to realise how women's creativity, leadership and nurturing has been suppressed. I feel now, living with such an uncertain future, is the time to honor the ability of women to nurture, lead and heal our society and take on the responsibility of caring for our planet.
